# About

> About Charli-Jo Tyrer and Carrados.

Charli-Jo Tyrer is a writer, accessibility thinker and conceptual artist working at the intersection of accessibility, artificial intelligence and design fiction.

Their accessibility work draws on almost four decades of lived experience with access and assistive technology together with current work in semantic web architecture, generative accessibility and AI-mediated interaction. Carrados is the home of that work, bringing together theoretical research, technical standards and practical systems that explore how information can remain accessible across changing technologies and changing ways of perceiving the world.

## Design non-fiction

Charli-Jo writes both design fiction and design non-fiction. Her design fiction is published by [Blind Ant](https://blind-ant.com/), under the pen name Charlotte Joanne: invented things that tell the truth. Carrados publishes her design non-fiction: true things, sometimes told through invented voices.

Charli-Jo speaks as Carrados. Some reports are filed by characters who speak for Carrados: dice, a temporal explorer who reports the weather from the parts of the future that have already arrived; Lucy Love-Child, who covers the Agent Wars for The Blind AI; and Madison McDonnell, the Access Provocateur.

They're fictional. Their work isn't.

## The name

Max Carrados is the blind detective of Ernest Bramah's stories, a man who notices what sighted people miss. Hence the motto: Insight Without Sight.

The Carrados logo is a double-outlined C with an open eye inside it and five rays above, beside the words CARRADOS .COM and the motto. It is drawn in code, and you can [download it as an SVG](https://carrados.com/carrados-logo.svg).
